Culture and Diversity
November 8, 2012
Tonight, Walden School Speaker Series continued with Billy Christian talking with parents about his personal experiences with culture and diversity. Billy invited the crowd to lean into those (sometimes uncomfortable) moments when compassion and reflection can help us connect to more inclusive dialogue. Using his own story of growing up during the Civil Rights movement, Billy both educated and entertained during his address. He led the group through an exercise that forced everyone to think about stereotypes, cultural expectations, and cross-cultural communication.
Walden School recently appointed Billy as Diversity Coordinator. He works with the Board of Trustees, staff, and faculty to foster multicultural understanding and community building.
